MILLENNIUM FABRICS BY MILLIKEN®
What are Millennium Fabrics by Milliken®? Millennium Fabrics are luxurious, heavyweight upholstery fabrics that provide the ultimate protection against stains, spills, odor-causing bacteria and fungi. They were developed specifically for any applications that require aesthetic appeal and tough protection properties.

Why are Millennium Fabrics unique? Even though Millennium Fabrics have amazing performance features, they are beautiful and soft to the touch. In addition, Millennium Fabrics are easy to maintain because they can be cleaned with water or common fabric cleaning agents, including solvent cleaners. This means you can safely use the best cleaner for the job. On Millennium Jacquard Plus™, bleach can be used to clean the fabric without damaging the color or design. That’s because the fabric is a 100 percent solution-dyed nylon with color extruded into the yarn. Bleach is not recommended for use on Millennium Fabrics prints.

Why were Millennium Fabrics developed? Milliken & Company realized a market need for a fabric that has the durability of vinyl, but with a soft textile hand. To meet this need, they challenged Milliken chemists to develop an upholstery fabric that felt like fabric, but would resist moisture and difficult stains. The chemists met that challenge by developing Millennium Fabrics.

Why are the fabrics so resistant to spills and stains? Millennium Fabrics are engineered for performance. From the selection of yarns, to fabric construction, to final finishing, each component plays a role in the exceptional performance of Millennium Fabrics.

The fabric’s fluid barrier protection is completely insoluble and, once applied to the fabric, will not react with any other substance. Even after repeated cleaning and abrasion, stains and spills won’t break through the fabric’s surface. In Wyzenbeek abrasion testing, Millennium Fabrics surpassed more than 200,000 double rubs. Millennium Jacquard Plus™ surpassed more than 300,000 double rubs.

Are Millennium Fabrics protected against the growth of odor-causing bacteria and fungi? Yes and the fabric’s protection will withstand normal abrasion and repeated spot cleaning.

Which cleaners can be used on Millennium Fabrics? It’s safe to clean Millennium Fabrics with any common fabric-cleaning agent. Independent laboratory tests proved the fabric’s performance did not deteriorate even after repeated cleanings with harsh solvent fabric cleaners, such as acetone, hexane, isopropanol and mineral spirits. And remember, Millennium Jacquard Plus offers the added advantage of safe cleaning with bleach.

How are Millennium Fabrics different from traditional upholstery fabrics? Millennium Fabrics don’t require a film on the fabric’s surface for stain resistance. This enables the fabrics to preserve a true fabric hand, yet offer protection properties that prevent stains from breaking through the fabric’s surface.

What is the difference between Millennium Prints and Millennium Jacquard Plus™? Millennium Prints and Millennium Jacquard Plus both offer all the high performance advantages of Millennium Fabrics; easy cleanability, durability, dependable fluid barrier, and antimicrobial protection. Jacquard Plus offers the added features of: 1000 hours of lightfastness for outdoor use, 300,000 double rubs and the ability to be cleaned with bleach.

What is important in selecting an upholstery fabric for high abuse areas? In survey after survey, designers and facility managers agree that three features are most important in selecting upholstery fabrics:
  1. Durability
  2. Choice of design
  3. Ease of maintenance

Millennium Fabrics meet these needs better than any other fabric. Millennium Fabrics provide greater durability, as measured in abrasion testing, than competitive fabrics do. And the durability is guaranteed for five years! Millennium Fabrics offer hundreds of patterns and colors, either prints or woven jacquard designs. And Millennium Fabrics provide easy maintenance, because they can be cleaned with any common upholstery fabric cleaners, even harsh solvents.

Can Millennium Fabrics be used for outdoor and marine applications? Jacquard Plus is the only high performance fabric that is approved for outdoor and marine use. Jacquard Plus™ passed stringent tests for mildew and colorfastness standards set by the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists and conducted by independent textile testing laboratories.

Diversified Testing Laboratories, Inc, of Burlington, N.C., performed the test for textile colorfastness to light in which Jacquard Plus received a 4.5 rating after an accelerated 50-day test that required 1,000 hours of exposure to a very concentrated light source simulating high degrees of sunlight. (In comparison, 40 hours of testing are required for drapery textiles and 150 to 160 hours are required for awning fabrics.) In mildew testing, Jacquard Plus passed the required accelerated series of tests that showed Jacquard Plus had no odor or mildew after a lengthy exposure to moisture, soil, fungus and environments ideal for the growth of mildew.

Do Millennium Fabrics meet fire retardant requirements for upholstered furniture? Yes. Millennium Fabrics have passed all of the standard fire retardant tests for upholstered furniture including the UFAC Fabric RC test, NFPA 260 4.1 test, and the CA 117 E test.

Do Millennium Fabrics come with a warranty? Yes. WearProof ™ is a comprehensive warranty that covers the dependability of Millennium Fabrics’ fluid barrier protection, durability and strength for five years from date of purchase.

What exactly does the warranty cover? WearProof guarantees that Millennium Fabrics’ fluid barrier protection will stay intact and resist fluid penetration into the foam of the furniture. This provides long-term protection from odors caused when fluids become trapped beneath the fabric’s surface. In addition, WearProof guarantees Millennium Fabrics will not show premature wear due to heavy abrasion or pilling; and seams will stay securely in place with no slippage or tearing, even under heavy use.

Are Millennium Fabrics patented products? Yes. Millennium Fabrics by Milliken® and Jacquard Plus™ are the property of Milliken & Company and are protected by US patents 5,899,783 & 5,902,753 and other patents pending.

Where can I find Millennium Fabrics? Millennium Fabrics are available through certified distributors. For more information, click here.
